Sustainability: Growing with care
Explores environmental and social practices in designing educational and non-formal activities for youth workers
Background and aims
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in education and youth work, as educators and youth workers play a key role in helping young people understand environmental, economical and social challenges and take action in their communities. At the same time, creating meaningful educational activities that are both engaging and sustainable requires practical knowledge, creativity and the right tools.
The Sustainability: Growing with Care training course responds to this need by exploring how environmental and social sustainability can be integrated into educational and non-formal activities for young people. It looks at sustainability not only as a topic to be addressed, but also as a principle that can shape the way activities are designed, delivered and experienced.
The primary aim of the training course is to equip youth workers with practical knowledge, tools and approaches to integrate sustainability into their everyday practice. Participants explore how to design meaningful and engaging non-formal education activities while making conscious choices about resources, methods and long-term impact. The course also encourages youth workers to reflect on their own practice and discover ways to make their work more sustainable, inclusive and relevant to the needs of their communities.
What’s in for you?
This training course is a practical learning experience designed for youth workers who want to strengthen their knowledge of sustainability and explore how to bring it into their educational practice. Through a combination of non-formal education methods, hands-on activities, reflection and group work, you will have the opportunity to connect sustainability with the realities of your everyday work.
Throughout the course, you will explore different environmental and social aspects of sustainability and learn how to incorporate them into the design of educational activities. You will experiment with practical tools and methods for designing engaging learning experiences that respond to the needs of your target groups while considering their environmental footprint, accessibility, resource use and potential for long-term impact.
Learning takes place through active participation and collaboration. Working individually and in groups, you will reflect on your own practice, exchange ideas with fellow youth workers and put what you learn into practice by designing and developing your own activities. The international setting will also allow you to discover different approaches to sustainability in youth work and build connections with professionals from across Europe.
By the end of the training, you will have a stronger understanding of how sustainability can be integrated into non-formal education, as well as practical ideas and tools that you can take back to your organisation and apply in your everyday work.
