MINDPLAY

Project: MINDPLAY - Youth Mental Well-Being through Playful Sports
Number: 2024-1-ES02-KA210-YOU-000254222
Sector: Youth, Sport

Duration: 01/09/2024 - 28/02/2026

Aim of the project

According to the Health at a Glance report for 2022, nearly one in two young Europeans (aged 15-24) have unmet mental healthcare needs. Young people lack access to necessary resources, interventions, and professional assistance to face mental health challenges. These issues are particularly challenging for those belonging to marginalized groups.

Meanwhile, team sports are essential for helping young people overcome mental health issues, as playing team sports fosters a feeling of understanding and solidarity. Hence, MINDPLAY's primary objective is to provide coaches with tools to detect people with mental health problems and to use a team sport such as volleyball as a tool to heal or mitigate mental health problems in young people from marginalized contexts.

Activities

  • Development of a Well-Being Training Program and an open-source Online Training Platform for coaches
  • Organization of an International Volleyball Match
  • Creation of a Mental Well-Being through Sport ToolKit, designed to empower coaches in addressing mental health challenges among young athletes

Expected results

  • Raising awareness on how sport can enhance young people's well being (both physically and mentally).
  • Equipping mentors and coaches with practical tools and resources that empower them to use sports as a means to foster overall youth health.
  • Developing a hub where young people from marginalized contexts can share experiences, strengthen their social skills and mitigate the impact of isolation and anxiety.
  • Developing young people's social skills by giving them a safe environment in which to interact, share ideas, and form deep connections.
